Tire under-inflation is the leading cause of premature tire failure. Even though checking and adding air is a simple task, it can be time-consuming. It is easy to talk yourself out of checking air pressures on all 24 tires of an 8-axle trailer in the middle of winter. The Link Cat’s Eye TPMS offers a convenient way to check the pressures visually and fill both duals from a single point. The easy to see Cat’s Eye dome gives a visual confirmation that your tires are at the correct pressure or that they need attention, so you only spend time checking the tires that need it.
Each Cat’s Eye assembly is set for a certain PSI rating and this should match the PSI that is being run in your tires. When the Cat’s Eye dome has completely closed the set of dual tires that the Cat’s Eye is attached to are at the correct set pressure. If the eye is slightly open the tires are slightly below pressure and as the eye opens more it is a signal that the tires are severely underinflated. If the eye is at any position besides fully closed the tires should be checked and the pressure adjusted.
Besides making the checking and filling of your tires more convenient, the Cat’s Eye system also helps extend the life of dual tires by equalizing the pressures between them. A 5% difference in air pressure can cause the lower pressure dual tire to be dragged 13 feet every mile. This drastically shortens tire life by causing wear and generating heat. The extra resistance causes higher fuel costs by lowering MPG and the heat can cause blowouts.
