Goodbye bungee cords and hello new hood latches! Bungee cords and tarp straps have their place in trucking, but the place is not on your hood. Over time, UV rays from the sun and general wear and tear will break down the original hood latches that were equipped on your truck. They may no longer hold pressure on the hood or break entirely. The temporary solution is usually to replace them with a tarp strap until you can order a replacement. Now, try to remember how long that tarp strap has been there and consider a premium replacement hood latch. Many of our hood latches are made from polyurethane instead of rubber so they will outlast any OEM or aftermarket rubber latch and they will certainly outlast a tarp strap.
Hood latches should always be ordered using an OEM number as a cross-reference to guarantee fit since there are so many different designs and they can be very similar in appearance. Hood latches that have brackets or latch levers will be made of high-performance reinforced plastic. Some newer trucks have moved away from the external rubber latch and onto a more modern plastic and metal internal latch. This can streamline the appearance of a truck and in most cases, the release of the hood is performed from inside the cab, so it is more secure. This type of latch should also be ordered using OEM numbers. This will ensure the proper fitment on the first try.
Replacing a hood latch can help improve the look of the truck and help silence rattles and squeaks caused by the hood moving on its mounts while you drive. If you are unable to find the latch that you are looking for please reach out to us at TruckSpring.com or call us at 1-800-358-4751 and we will be glad to help.
