Replacing Worn Shocks & Struts Improves Ride Quality & Handling

Replacing your shock absorber is one the one of the least expensive ways to improve the ride of your vehicle. Your shocks are one of the most important parts on your car, truck or SUV. Shock absorbers control the movement of your suspension. If this is not being done correctly, the effects can harm your suspension over time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - SHOCKS

Having bad shocks can cause a variety of problems with your vehicle. Not replacing your worn out shocks can cost you money over time by damaging your tires and other parts of your car or truck. Excessive vibrations and the pounding from the road will have negative effects wide range of parts on your vehicle. In the long run, not replacing worn shocks will increase the wear on your car or truck, and end up costing you more money.

Obviously, if your shocks are showing signs of damage they are probably in need of replacement. Physically inspect them and look for dents or an excessive amount of leaking fluid. How is the ride? A bad ride is something you may have gotten accustomed to over time, and you don’t realize how bad it really is until you replace your old shocks or upgrade to a high end shock like Bilstein. Does the front end dive when you apply your brakes? How is your steering response? Do you feel every bump in the road? Is your truck swaying more than it used to? If your vehicle has any of these problems it may be time to replace your shocks.

This is a common question. There are many variables and there is no set number on how many miles you should get out of a shock absorber. What brand of shocks do you have? This is the most important factor on how long they will last. Entry level shocks or the originals from the factory will not last nearly as long as a high end, more expensive shock like Bilstein. If you had to put a number on it, many professionals recommend changing out your factory shocks around 50,000 miles. This number can vary greatly with variables like the kind of driving you do and the condition of the roads in your town.

Not with shock absorbers. Shocks are designed to dampen the vibrations from the ride and control movement; they are not designed to carry weight. If your truck is sagging because you are towing a trailer, or carrying a heavy load, you should consider suspension air bags or steel helper springs.

At TruckSpring.com we carry shock absorbers for everything from cars and minivans to lifted trucks and Class 8 semis. If you need help with finding the correct shocks for your vehicle or want to know if shocks will help correct a problem you have, give us a call us at 1-800-358-4751 or 989-755-0561.
